| Like an unexpected plot twist the 20-17 Patriots’ score line startled
many. The script said the red-hot St Louis Rams would descend to roast the
pesky New England Patriots under the Louisiana Superdome lights. Snowed-in
Patriots would melt in New Orleans, they said. |

| Here’s a review of the excitement you could have shared by trading a star-studded
Super Bowl on TradeSports during the game. |
| |
| Reflecting their pre-match status, the Rams to win the Super Bowl were
84 bid after they elected to receive on winning the toss. By the end of
the first quarter, traders on the exchange were saying the Rams still had
an 84 percent chance (2/11 in fixed odds) of winning. |
| |
| It was the second quarter, featuring two Patriots’ touchdowns, that the
trading story started getting interesting. As the graph shows, a 47-yard
touchdown interception by Patriots’ defensive back Ty Law sent the Rams’
to win tumbling to 62 points. (Inversely, traders were saying the Patriots
now had a fighting 38 percent probability (13/8 chance) of staging an upset.)
|
| |
| Trading excitement, and further plot shifts, continued through the fourth
quarter. The Rams’ price to win the game was recovering even before Rams’
wide receiver Ricky Proehl scored that 26-yard touchdown. Within minutes
though, the Rams’ price was again skidding off the mountain. Their price
was already close to 0 as the Patriots kicked the 48-yard field goal. |
